Addressing Gender and Diversity in Textbooks
I looked at the English language textbook Keynote Intermediate through a social justice lens for gender and diversity. The textbook is part of series from a collaboration by National Geographic and Cengage Learning, using TED Talks for each unit. The first unit is about “Working life” and I made adaptations for pages 10 and 11. My changes include replacing the TED Talk presentation by Mark Bezos titled, “A life lesson from a volunteer firefighter” with a more gender and diversity inclusive TEDx Talk by Bronnie Mackintosh titled, “How diversity in Fire and Rescue will build a safer society.”
