Kindness does not equal justice
Bret Turner talks about how even though children’s storybooks like Dr. Seuss preach stories of kindness, they still perpetuate racism.
“The harm done by long-term exposure to injustice—to the kind of imagery found in racist books, microaggressions and discrimination—calls for more than a simple understanding of kindness. It demands that kindness be interwoven with substantial notions of true justice.”
It’s such a good read and makes my heart happy that other educators of young children are not only touching on social justice in their classrooms, but making it a central focus.

Appreciate the insight into the intersection of kindness and justice. It is crucial to address the deeper implications of children literature on shaping perspectives fostering a more inclusive educational environment.
