Queer Black People Exist Too
This article is so striking because I feel the same way about the erasure of queer Asians (even though media is so quick to de-masculate Asian men).
“As it stands, when Blackness is involved, straightness and cisness is too. What this does is create an ahistorical approach to our history.”

This is a very good piece Ann. Thanks for sharing!
I am surprised though with one of the comments – and because I didn’t go to school here in the States but [and not very surprised but found it bizarre, let’s say] – teachers do not discuss Black people (e.g., important figures in history for instance) in their classes unless it’s the Black History Month? REALLY? Maybe in some contexts yes but I am sure there’re teachers out there who know better!
I used to watch a lot of TV when I was a kid, it’s how I learned English. The Disney channel used to do this historical fact commercial, and the only one I can remember is that George Washington Carver invented peanut butter. All of the things black people have contributed to the history of America and they get acknowledged for … peanut butter.
I literally had to take a class about Asian American Politics to learn that there was a Chinese Exclusion Act. It absolutely blows my mind the stuff that is left out of history books to push this “white is right” agenda in the US.
Absolutely! Celebrating the existence and contributions of queer Black individuals is essential for a comprehensive understanding of identity and culture. Their stories and experiences enrich our society, much like the fun of the Dinosaur Game during a connectivity lull. Let’s elevate these voices and ensure they are recognized and valued in every community.
