Outrage over shutdown of LGBTQ WeChat accounts in China
This article wrote about how LGBTQ and feminist accounts are blocked in China. Ideology, homophobia, state power, this article touched many layers of LGBTQ issues in China. LGBTQ organizations are accused of being run by western power and served as a western propaganda, and they are views as “toxic” by some of the governors.

Hey there, Mujun! Thank you so much for posting this story! As a queer cisman who could potentially work and teach English in China or in any number of other places that aren’t super queer friendly–like Wyoming where I live lol–this story reinforces my firsthand experience with the fact that it is not always safe to be out as a queer person, and that there is a long fight ahead for queer folks to have the same rights as heterosexuals in many places around the world–including in the U.S. where queer folks can be fired for no other cause than being queer in at least 18 states (see these sites for more info: https://www.lgbtmap.org/equality-maps/non_discrimination_laws; https://www.fastcompany.com/90369004/lgbt-employee-protections-by-state-map-shows-where-gay-workers-can-be-fired)
Hi Greg, thank you for sharing this resource, I thought in US there is no discrimination against LGBTQI group. I feel that the priority is to be safe (both mentally and physically). Especially in China and other places where traditional values are the mainstream, it is really a traumatic experience to “come out”. Many of my friends choose to make it a secret or only keep it to close friends because of the rumors. I agree with you that there is a long fight ahead but I think our generation is more open-minded than the elder generation, which has already shown some progress.
I really appreciate you sharing your tale!
