Environmental Justice, COVID-19, and Climate Change
This article discusses current climate, health (COVID-19) risks, racial and social justice issues facing local communities within the Monterey Bay Area, but also across the United States and globally. The current pandemic the world is facing and immense environmental justice issues societies are faced with are linked. A road to recovery during and after COVID-19 calls to address the environmental justice, social, racial and climate issues. During the pandemic, environmental injustice and racism could be on the rise across communities; already-vulnerable communities already face a higher risk to environmental hazards and issues exposed to climate change. An increase in environmental justice recovery is needed across communities in America and the education and awareness should be increased as well.

Josh, this article caught my eye because of the doomsday picture of agricultural workers right here in our backyard. I remember those days when the AQI (an acronym I knew nothing about before it became my go to stat) was ‘very unhealthy’ or worse, ‘dangerous’ for 9-10 days straight. Unfortunately it is the lower-income groups, often immigrants and/or people of color, who most often suffer. This plays out all too often with two other examples coming to mind: the disproportionate impact to communities of color as a result of both Hurricane Katrina and the water issues in Flint Michigan.
While addressing critical issues like environmental justice, COVID-19, and climate change, it’s also important to prioritize self-care. Treatments like Dermal Fillers in Placentia, CA, can help enhance confidence and well-being, reminding us to take care of ourselves as we work toward a better world.
