Implicit Bias Association Test
Oliver’s post on Peanut Butter and Jelly and Racism (if you haven’t watched it, go check it out!) got me thinking about an association test I took back in undergrad. Harvard university uses science to help people uncover and understand their own implicit biases. Click here to take the test yourself!
This would be very interesting as a class resource. I think you would have to do it with higher level students. Also, it would be interesting to see how students from different cultures (who have their own, probably different implicit biases) did on a test that I would say is geared towards an American audience. Basically, I wonder the intercultural validity of this test.

Miranda, Nice test for implicit bias! I think this test was used in the Racism course that we are all required to take this semester. We took an implicit bias test but I am not sure of the source (whether from Harvard or some other institution). Also great question about whether this test is US-centric or has universal application. I assume the former.
Yeah, I think it’s a pretty common tool in any DEI training or multicultural course. I just started the Racial Equity course! I specifically planned it to overlap with the two weeks we are talking about race in this class. It’s interesting (and depressing) to see the overlap.
Yes, I would definitely be interested in seeing the cross-cultural application. Racism and other prejudices exists everywhere so I wonder if there is a similar project for other contexts.
