“Just dial 988” – Suicide Prevention Hotline Number gets passed
This is slightly old news, but this short blog/news post talks about how The National Suicide Hotline Designation Act which was officially passed in October. This law will shorten the current 10-digit number to simply ‘988’ making it much more accessible to people needing immediate help. This law is also really important because it is the first explicitly LGBTQ-inclusive bill to ever pass in Congress unanimously, and LGBTQ+ youth are disproportionally affected by suicide.
P.S. I got this blog/news post from the Trevor Project’s website which is a great LGBTQ+ website which I listed as a resource here!
