Sesame Street teaches children to stand up against racism in TV special
This article reports on a Sesame Street special (a long running US TV show for children) focused on racism. The show will air on 15 Oct and in it children will be told the definition of racism and how hurtful it can be. Skits include a character declaring that they are proud to be red. In another skit, a black character is at first told by another kid that superheros are white before the two children agree that color shouldn’t matter. I learned to count from this show (Count Dracula) and think this is a great idea for children to learn about racism.

Oliver, thank you for sharing this article. I am reminded of my childhood and the shows I watched with episodes on race and discrimination like That’s So Raven. I believe when popular and influential television shows promote and discuss sensitive issues, children benefit socially and emotionally.
