Tainted Water Causing Developmental Issues?
Since we discussed this issue in class last week, I thought it’d be pertinent to follow up.
According to this article, 1 out of 5 students in Flint, Michigan qualify for special education. This spike in need is a strain on Flint’s already strained economy and resources.
In this case … does correlation imply causation?

Hmm interesting article and really sad. I wonder if this might be a case of intersectionality as well because not only are the majority of the people affected black or indigenous, but they are also impoverished. It makes me sad to think that these children are afflicted with a life-long illness because the white men in positions of power ignored a problem. It’s interesting as well that this is not national news. Kinda also makes me think of the new Joker movie.. Did you see it?
I haven’t ! I want to though.
I just remember watching this documentary about Flint and how people KNEW there was a problem and the people in power were just like #fakenews! But what’s disgusting is this ISN’T the first time it’s happened in America! DC’s water was tainted years before.
Aren’t we (Americans) supposed to be leading the world in innovation and safety? But look at how our own citizens are being ignored and pushed aside.
Yeah I mean, access to clean water, a basic human right, should be the basis for determining a country’s wealth…right?
Here is two articles by Robert Bullard on Flint water crisis. He says “The Flint water crisis is a man-made disaster and a textbook case of environmental injustice.”

Loved the tone and clarity.
Just what I was looking for.
This answered all my questions.
