Women’s Issues are Men’s Issues

This is a pretty popular video where Jackson Katz outlines why we need to rethink how we associate gender issues as “women’s issues that some good men help out with.” He provides a lot of examples of why this happened and ways to move forward. I especially liked his discussion over the use of passive voice in domestic violence scenarios, referring to women as battered and beaten, which eliminates the perpetrator. I think this video is a bit long to use fully in the classroom but I think shorter clips would work in advanced classes. I also just think this is a nice resource for thinking more in depth about how we phrase gender issues and finding ways to challenge perceptions.
